Can you imagine what could have happened if the fire which gutted the driver’s seat above reached this truck’s fuel tank? Baguio would have an unimaginable disaster in its hands if the tank was full of gasoline.
Report from Richard Balonglong: (via Art Tibaldo)
A fuel delivery truck (plate # UKN 956), passing along Kisad Rd. Baguio City, caught fire inside the driver’s area. The fire started around 9:00 in the morning of February 29, 2008.
Six people were injured: Juanito Uy, the driver of the fuel delivery truck; his wife Rosalie Calibos who suffered 2nd degree burn; their two children — Samuel (4yrs old) and Jasmine Joy (1 yr and 4months old); the driver’s helper, Mr. Nathan; and a passerby Mr. Rodrigo Halog Salango.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
We hope that the victims of this tragedy will recover from the wounds they sustained. More photos after the jump. Don’t click if you are squeamish.

We’re a fan of Minnie Bulong. You’ll also become a fan if you watch the video above as well as her other Youtube videos: Usapang Tsismis and Eigen Uitspraak. Fun and entertaining, no?
According to her Youtube profile, Minnie is from Ifugao who currently lives in the Netherlands. She has a blog here, for those who understand Dutch. Thanks Minnie. We heart your videos.
Here’s a song for those of us who are in a worshipful mood. Now, if this was a choral competition and you were Simon Cowell, what would you say of this performance. Brilliant? Boring? That was safe but uninspiring? The best vocals of the night?
Oops. This is a better late than never kind of post. It’s old news (reported weeks ago) but it’s interesting enough so we are going to blog about it hehe.
Apparently, the peace and order situation in the the town of Tineg, Abra has been bad during the past years so government officials held office in Bangued, the provincial capital. Thankfully, things have improved now so, for the first time in six years, Tineg’s public servants are back to where they should be serving. Good for the people of Tineg. We hope it continues that way.

You decide. Statement from the Tungtungan ti Umili via Sunstar.
On Panagbenga funds:
“People have the right to know where their money was spent and how their elected officials spent it,”
On that cultural street dancing thing:
“Clearly, this is at the expense of exploiting Cordillera indigenous culture so rooted in our indigenous peoples’ history of cultural heritage. Commercializing causes its own slow death — and this death is tantamount to that of indigenous peoples when we lose our identity due to national oppression.”
“To replicate this for public consumption and consumer satisfaction robs the people of their own cultural symbols and practices. Misrepresentation gives the broader public wrong impressions of the Cordilleran culture. In fact, we may be introducing the wrong culture to our children.”
So is the Tungtungan a party pooper or is it the voice of reason? Maybe both?
Particularly the dengue-carrying ones and especially in places identified by the Department of Health as high risk areas. From the Manila Bulletin:
34 dengue-risk areas identified in Cordillera
By Dexter A. See
BAGUIO CITY — The Cordillera office here of the Department of Health (DoH) has identified 34 dengue-risk areas in the region. It was feared a dengue outbreak now stalks in these areas.
Of the 34 dengue-stricken areas, 15 barangays are located in this mountain resort city, and the 19 other dengue-risk areas are in the different provinces in the region.
However, health authorities said that there is no cause for alarm because the agency and its partner agencies have put in place programs, projects, and strategies aimed at preventing the spread of dengue fever cases.
Dr. Myrna Cabotaje, DOH-CAR regional director, said that the people could prevent the outbreak of dengue-fever cases in their localities with the right information on the four ways of preventing it.
These are searching and destroying the breeding sites of dengue-carrying mosquitoes, self-protection measures, seeking consultation, and saying “no” to indiscriminate fogging.
Records show that the risk areas in the city are Engineer’s Hill, Aurora Hill, Santa Scholastica, Lucban, Holyghost, City Camp, Hillside, Irisan, Quezon Hill, Kias, San Luis village, Dominican, Mirador, Trancoville, and Asin.

Thank God the Bishop is not a boot licker like the Guv. From GMANews.tv:
A retired Roman Catholic bishop has backed out of leading the Mass to celebrate the 22nd anniversary of the first people power revolution at the Our Lady of Peace Shrine on EDSA apparently after learning that President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo might attend the event.
A church insider who requested anonymity said retired Bishop Francisco Claver of Bontoc-Lagawe has dropped the invitation for him to lead the noon Mass at the EDSA Shrine Monday when told that Mrs Arroyo would be coming.
“The bishop was scheduled to say Mass but backed out when told Mrs Arroyo might come,” the source said in a telephone interview.
Asked to comment, Claver, reached by telephone, refused to say why he dropped the invitation.
I hope the other bishops will follow our kailiyan’s example and likewise shun Gloria. For too long the bishops have hemmed and hawed while the nation burned.
The country would have moved forward if the CBCP supported the calls for Gloria’s impeachment the first time allegations of her cheating surfaced in 2005. Back then, the bishops turned out to be a bunch of fence sitters. It’s not surprising that Gloria got bolder and more corrupt. As the cliche goes, “All that is needed for evil to triumph is for good men/women to do nothing.”
That’s exactly what the CBCP has been doing. It sat idly by while Gloria and her cronies mocked us with their corrupt ways. There were, of course, some bishops who were vocal about their criticisms of the current regime. Thank God for that.
Anyways, let’s hope that more bishops will follow Bishop Claver and finally say no to Gloria. They should stop being her tools.
