Is insurance important? Yes it is. It helps protect us from any loss that we might incur in the future. It makes that loss less painful and more bearable. Still a very important thing to remember about insurance is the need to fully understand the terms and conditions of your insurance policy. This is true whether we are talking about educational insurance, property insurance, Commercial Insurance, life insurance, health insurance, and the other kinds of insurance plans out there.
In order to understand what your insurance is about, the rule of thumb is to always (yes, always) read the fine print. This rule applies whether you’re buying your insurance from a well-dressed, brimming with enthusiasm, has-all-the-answers sales agent, or whether you are getting your policy through the internet, or whether you’re getting it from your loving wife who happens to sell insurance on the side. It will do you no harm if you take the time to read what you are ensuring against, what is covered by the policy, exceptions to the coverage, the policy’s limitations, et cetera.
So if you’ve read the policy, understood its terms and conditions, and are satisfied with said terms then go ahead and get that insurance.
You will sleep more soundly if you have insurance. But you will sleep much, much more soundly (maybe 200% more) if you understood its terms and conditions.
So we’re not the only ones who believe that appointing a “caretaker” (or undertaker as one of you wittily stated in the comments) has no basis in law. Read the write-up of Greg Taguiba below which also makes the same argument. (By the way, thanks to our tipster who alerted us about Greg’s article.)
As we said earlier, instead of proposing this caretaker nonsense, our officials should be working to ensure that a special election is held. Para naman marinig ang boses ng tao kung sino ang gusto nila.
Currently, we have some politicians pushing for the appointment of Baguio Rep. Domogan as the Mt. Province caretaker. Then, according to Greg’s article, “the camp of the late congressman is pushing for the appointment of Kalinga Rep. Manuel Agyao”. One of you also wrote here that Benguet Rep. Samuel Dangwa suggested Ifugao Rep. Solomon Chungalao as the caretaker. As things go, I think the only “non-biased, no hidden agenda” suggestion is the one that comes from the Benguet Congressman.
Still, the best thing to do really is to get the will of the people. Who do they want as their Congressional representative? Only an election will determine this. The problem with this “caretaker” nonsense is that once a “caretaker” is appointed, those who lobbied for his/her appointment will be less inclined to work for the holding of a special election.
So no to caretakers. Yes to a special election. Masapol adi ay boses nan ipugao nan madnge. Cha, owen man.

According to my good friend Gina, orange (the color not the Nueva Vizcaya fruit) has a calming effect. I’m not sure about that but maybe she’s right. Maybe this is the reason why God in his wisdom usually paints our sky orange. Maybe it’s his way of telling us, “Calm down, you silly people. Calm down.”
Anyways, it’s the middle of the week where I sit so I’m looking at this picture to calm myself down.
P.S. Sabi pala ni Gina, isang rason daw kung bakit orange ang kulay ng mga damit ng mga Ananda Marga at ng mga Buddhist monks ay dahil sa natatanging “calming effect” ng nasabing kulay na ito.
If you are like the British or if you are a Brit yourself, you would rather spend your time thinking about holidays rather than about your personal financial situation. Well, that’s according to this website which cites a report by fool.co.uk.
According to said report, a little over one in three (36 per cent) Brits spend at least ten hours thinking of their holidays. In contrast, only only about one in ten (11 per cent) spend the same amount of time thinking about their mortgage.
Methinks it’s a no contest really, thinking about holidays is fun while thinking about mortgages is, well, anything but fun. It’s a choice between your favorite ice cream and the bitter medicine that Nurse Ratchet forced on you when you were a kid. So it’s kinda understandable if Brits rather think thoughts that go, “Hmm, should I go to the Bahamas or should I go to Kenya to see where Obama came from?” rather than, “Oh my God. I should get a Mortgage Quote now and discuss our options with my wife.”
Still, one cannot ignore mortgage issues if they’re real and they’re confronting you in the face. You cannot wish them away. Better to confront the challenge now if this will improve your financial standing. Hmm, do I sound like a financial guru or what?
Is Baguio the educational center of the north? Maybe. Lately though, it seems like it’s developing a reputation as the place where Koreans can get a quickie diploma. Last November, for instance, the Koreatimes reported this:
Twenty-three incumbent and former military officers and officer cadets were caught for having used fake university diplomas during their application for officer training, a lawmaker said Friday.
According to Rep, Song Young-sun of the Grand National Party, the Ministry of Defense recently withdrew its appointment of 13 incumbent and two former officers for allegedly fabricating diplomas from A.T. College in Baguio, the Philippines, to submit to the ministry for verification of their academic record.
Hello, young people with disposable income. What are you doing with your money? Wasting it in tech gadgets which you will throw away in two years so you can replace it with a hipper and newer model? Or are you wasting your money clubbing the night away? Or maybe you’re wasting your money on expensive, fancy stuff like that David Beckham shirt being sold on e-bay. Dude, it’s just a damn shirt, you should not spend the equivalent of, say, Guatemala’s GNP per capita for that kind of thing. Really, kid, such wasteful spending.
Anyways, those of you who have more sense than to spend money on Beckham’s used shirt might want to check out Diamond Bay Investments particularly its trust deed investment plan. Learn more about it here.
