Nan Layad Nan Likhatan, The Pe’tune Version Arts/Entertainment | (9)

We’ve been talking about the song, Nan Layad Nan Likhatan, in our other blog [here and here] but we haven’t uploaded any video performance of the song. Good thing the Pe’tune Band have this video which they recorded during their performance at the Baguio Convention Center. Good job, guys.

We will upload a more soulful version of the song when we find one.

    Jun Utleg’s Igorota Arts/Entertainment | (12)

    Cross-posted at From the Boondocks.

Mapapa-wow ka sa ganda ng kantang ito. I think it typifies the kind of songs we love in the Cordilleras — smooth, kind of quiet (or walang vocal theatricals), and meaningful.

Jun Utleg used to be a member of Binhi, the Baguio band known for that hauntingly beautiful song, “Ang Bata”. I remember hearing “Ang Bata” performed in one of Baguio’s bars, was haunted by it, and went back the following night to buy a copy of the band’s record. I can imagine myself doing that for this song, “Igorota”.

Fellow bloggers: Let’s help promote this song. I-blog na rin ninyo sa inyong blog hehe.

Coming Up Too: First Benguet Country Fair Arts/Entertainment, Benguet | (0)

Seems like a lot of interesting events will be coming up these coming weeks. First, we told you about the Strawberry Woodstock. Then, there’s Cordillera Day which will be celebrated by our friends from the left. Then, now we have a Benguet Country Fair intended to showcase Kabenguetan’s love for everything country.

    First Benguet Country Fair slated
    Sunstar Baguio

THE Benguet people’s passion for western themes will be highlighted as the province hosts the first Country Fair, an event spearheaded by the newly organized Benguet Visitor’s Bureau (BVB).

Organizers of the 10-day activity said the affair will showcase the things about country lifestyles, which have become hit to the province’s constituents.
“This event is inspired by the Benguet people’s love for horses, jeans, boots, line dancing, country music and anything that makes a country type of lifestyle,” lawyer Damaso Bangaoet said.

Bangaoet is one of the organizers of the first Benguet Country Fair.

The event is initiated by the BVB, in coordination with the Department of Tourism (DOT).

BVB executive director Gregory Loy said while the affair would focus more on getting the constituents appreciate their potentials, the event will serve as added tourism attraction for Benguet.

The activity will run from April 25 to May 4 at the Palmaville in Puguis, La Trinidad.

Aside from the booths and exhibit areas that will display western materials, country fair-related competitions will also be held.

Organic products will also be featured as the bureau gears towards the promotion of organic production in the province.

The BVB, an organization aimed at coordinating the tourism activities of the province and its 13 towns, is initially composed of seven members — all from the private sector. (JC)

He Could Have Danced All Night Arts/Entertainment | (1)

Two years ago around this time of the year, Marky Cielo broke into the entertainment industry by winning GMA-7’s Starstruck contest. Here’s the video of his final performance which earned raves from the judges. Cool, ha? He went on dancing despite losing his shoe.

Anyways, those of you who watched this when it was aired may want to revisit the moment. If you didn’t watch it before, eh di suwerte ka at merong youtube. Hehe.

The Bigis Guys Strike Again music | (3)

Note: If Youtube tells you that the video is “no longer available”, you can actually play it by clicking at the title of the post and then playing the video. There must be a bug somewhere causing this problem.

    ****
Wow. The Bigis guys keep on producing great songs and great videos. Our personal favorite would still be their Bigis song or “Ay Bigis Ka a.k.a. Are You a Worm?” but this one is really good too. For non-Kankanaey speakers, the song is mostly an advice to vegetable farmers to bring their products ASAP to the vegetable trading post so they can get a good price for their produce.

This is what happens when we have a system where middlemen dictate the buying price of vegetables and where the President allows uncontrolled vegetable importation because it personally benefits her.

So a farmer’s income depends not on hard work but on whether or not he reaches the vegetable trading post at a favorable time. And we wonder why farmers tend to be fatalists?

    Coming Up: Strawberry Woodstock Arts/Entertainment | (3)

Found this via the BSU Blog. What is it? It is a two day concert scheduled 25-27 April as a tribute to Overseas Filipino Workers. Cool, eh? Proceeds of the concert will be used for the renovation of the San Jose Parish Church in La-Trinidad.

The concert is being organized by the Baguio Market Network in cooperation with The Benguet State University, The Province of Benguet, The Municipality of La Trinidad, and The San Jose Parish Community.

I mistakenly thought that the Baguio Market Network is a network of vendors/stall renters of the Baguio City market but it turns out that it is a company that “deploys wireless infrastructures and provides IT technology”.

Is it me or is that an uncool name (maybe unfortunate even) for an IT company? Really, the image that comes to mind — to me at least — when you say “Baguio Market” is the crowded (and in some parts smelly) Baguio City market. Hehe.

Anyways, this company has a website here. And it promises to do a live broadcast of the Strawberry Woodstock so that OFWs will be able to watch it.

UPDATE: The schedule has been changed from 25-27 April to 29-31 May. It will be held at the same venue. You can read the list of artists who are performing at the Strawberry Woodstock here.
